संजय उवाच
ततो भूरिश्रवा राजन् सात्यकिं नवभिः शरैः ॥
अविध्यद् भृशसंक्रुद्धस् तोत्त्रैर् इव महाद्विपम् ॥
कौरवं सात्यकिश् चैव शरैः संनतपर्वभिः ॥
अवाकिरद् अमेयात्मा सर्वलोकस्य पश्यतः ॥
ततो दुर्योधनो राजा सोदर्यैः परिवारितः ॥
सौमदत्तिं रणे यत्तः समन्तात् पर्यवारयत् ॥
तथैव पाण्डवाः सर्वे सात्यकिं रभसं रणे ॥
परिवार्य स्थिताः संख्ये समन्तात् सुमहौजसः ॥
भीमसेनस् तु संक्रुद्धो गदाम् उद्यम्य भारत ॥
दुर्योधनमुखान् सर्वान् पुत्रांस् ते पर्यवारयत् ॥
रथैर् अनेकसाहस्रैः क्रोधामर्षसमन्वितः ॥
नन्दकस् तव पुत्रस् तु भीमसेनं महाबलम् ॥
विव्याध निशितैः षड्भिः कङ्कपत्रैः शिलाशितैः ॥
दुर्योधनस् तु समरे भीमसेनं महाबलम् ॥
आजघानोरसि क्रुद्धो मार्गणैर् निशितैस् त्रिभिः ॥
ततो भीमो महाबाहुः स्वरथं सुमहाबलः ॥
आरुरोह रथश्रेष्ठं विशोकं चेदम् अब्रवीत् ॥

tato bhūriśravā rājan sātyakiṃ navabhiḥ śaraiḥ ||
avidhyad bhṛśasaṃkruddhas tottrair iva mahādvipam ||
kauravaṃ sātyakiś caiva śaraiḥ saṃnataparvabhiḥ ||
avākirad ameyātmā sarvalokasya paśyataḥ ||
tato duryodhano rājā sodaryaiḥ parivāritaḥ ||
saumadattiṃ raṇe yattaḥ samantāt paryavārayat ||
tathaiva pāṇḍavāḥ sarve sātyakiṃ rabhasaṃ raṇe ||
parivārya sthitāḥ saṃkhye samantāt sumahaujasaḥ ||
bhīmasenas tu saṃkruddho gadām udyamya bhārata ||
duryodhanamukhān sarvān putrāṃs te paryavārayat ||
rathair anekasāhasraiḥ krodhāmarṣasamanvitaḥ ||
nandakas tava putras tu bhīmasenaṃ mahābalam ||
vivyādha niśitaiḥ ṣaḍbhiḥ kaṅkapatraiḥ śilāśitaiḥ ||
duryodhanas tu samare bhīmasenaṃ mahābalam ||
ājaghānorasi kruddho mārgaṇair niśitais tribhiḥ ||
tato bhīmo mahābāhuḥ svarathaṃ sumahābalaḥ ||
āruroha rathaśreṣṭhaṃ viśokaṃ cedam abravīt ||
Sanjaya said: “Then, greatly enraged, Bhurishravas struck Satyaki with nine arrows, O king, as one goads a great elephant. And Satyaki, immeasurable in spirit, covered the Kaurava with well-jointed arrows before the eyes of the whole world. Then King Duryodhana, surrounded by his brothers, shielded Saumadatti, who stood ready in the battle, from every side. Likewise all the mighty Pandavas surrounded the fierce Satyaki and stood around him in the fight. Enraged Bhimasena, raising his mace, O Bharata, surrounded all your sons led by Duryodhana with thousands of chariots, filled with anger and impatience. Your son Nandaka, full of fury, pierced mighty Bhimasena with six sharp, whetted arrows fletched with kanka feathers. And Duryodhana, in the battle, enraged, struck mighty Bhimasena in the chest with three sharp arrows. Then the mighty-armed and exceedingly strong Bhima mounted his own finest chariot and said this to Vishoka.”
