Seeing that the army was breaking apart, the joy of the Yadavas, reining in his excellent chariot, said to Partha-Bibhatsu: 'Partha, the very hour has come that you longed for. Strike him, tiger among men, if you are not lost in delusion. What you once declared, hero, at the assembly of kings, in the city of Virata, in the presence of Sanjaya — "I will destroy all the soldiers of Dhritarashtra's son, led by Bhishma and Drona, together with their allies, if they fight against me" — fulfil that now, son of Kunti. Make your word true, tamer of foes. Remembering the kshatriya's duty, fight, O bull of the Bharatas.'

Krishna does not substitute his own will for Arjuna's decision: he reminds him of his own promise and his own duty. Spiritual guidance here is not gentle comfort but a call back to the warrior's responsibility for what he has said and what he has undertaken.
