अथैनं पञ्चविंशत्या पुनश् चैव समर्पयत् ॥
स गाढविद्धो व्यथितो रथोपस्थ उपाविशत् ॥
दुःशासनो महाराज कश्मलं चाविशन् महत् ॥

saṃdadhe paravīraghnaḥ kālāgnyanilavarcasam ||
tasyoras tūrṇam āsādya jatrudeśe vibhidya tam ||

sa gāḍhaviddho vyathito rathopastha upāviśat ||
duḥśāsano mahārāja kaśmalaṃ cāviśan mahat ||
Having spoken thus, the mighty-armed slayer of enemy heroes set an arrow that would bring death to Duhshasana, shining like the fire of Time and the wind. Swiftly reaching his chest and piercing him in the collarbone, he then struck him once more with twenty-five arrows. Deeply pierced and exhausted, Duhshasana, O great sovereign, sank down upon the platform of his chariot, and a deep unconsciousness seized him.

The boy's word at once turns into deed: having proclaimed his debt, he lays the offender low. Thus the unity of speech and action shows itself in the noble man — he does not threaten in vain, but carries out what he has said. It is telling that the arrow is called "bringing death," yet Duhshasana will survive now by a kind of miracle, only to fall later by Bhima's hand, in fulfillment of his vow. The verse teaches that in the valiant man word and deed are one — what he promises comes to pass; that retribution, even if delayed, inescapably overtakes the guilty one; and that in this instant felling of the arrogant offender by the boy, justice shows itself, tolerating no gap between threat and fulfillment — he who has spoken has also acted.
