धृतराष्ट्र उवाच
यथा वदसि मे सूत एकस्य बहुभिः सह ॥
संग्रामं तुमुलं घोरं जयं चैव महात्मनः ॥
अश्रद्धेयम् इवाश्चर्यं सौभद्रस्याथ विक्रमम् ॥
किं तु नात्यद्भुतं तेषां येषां धर्मो व्यपाश्रयः ॥
दुर्योधने ऽथ विमुखे राजपुत्रशते हते ॥
सौभद्रे प्रतिपत्तिं कां प्रत्यपद्यन्त मामकाः ॥

dhṛtarāṣṭra uvāca
yathā vadasi me sūta ekasya bahubhiḥ saha ||
saṃgrāmaṃ tumulaṃ ghoraṃ jayaṃ caiva mahātmanaḥ ||
aśraddheyam ivāścaryaṃ saubhadrasyātha vikramam ||
kiṃ tu nātyadbhutaṃ teṣāṃ yeṣāṃ dharmo vyapāśrayaḥ ||
duryodhane 'tha vimukhe rājaputraśate hate ||
saubhadre pratipattiṃ kāṃ pratyapadyanta māmakāḥ ||

Translation

"How you tell me, o narrator, of the raging, dreadful battle of one against many, and of the victory of that great-souled one — the unimaginable, marvel-like valor of the son of Subhadra... Yet no great marvel is it, for those whose refuge is dharma. When Duryodhana was turned back and a hundred princes struck down, what resolve did my [warriors] choose regarding Abhimanyu?"
