तत्राद्भुतम् अपश्याम शैनेयचरितं रणे ॥
प्रतीच्यां दिशि तं दृष्ट्वा प्राच्यां पश्याम लाघवात् ॥
उदीचीं दक्षिणां प्राचीं प्रतीचीं प्रसृतस् तथा ॥
नृत्यन्न् इवाचरच् छूरो यथा रथशतं तथा ॥
तद् दृष्ट्वा चरितं तस्य सिंहविक्रान्तगामिनः ॥
त्रिगर्ताः संन्यवर्तन्त संतप्ताः स्वजनं प्रति ॥
tatrādbhutam apaśyāma śaineyacaritaṃ raṇe ||
pratīcyāṃ diśi taṃ dṛṣṭvā prācyāṃ paśyāma lāghavāt ||
udīcīṃ dakṣiṇāṃ prācīṃ pratīcīṃ prasṛtas tathā ||
nṛtyann ivācarac chūro yathā rathaśataṃ tathā ||
tad dṛṣṭvā caritaṃ tasya siṃhavikrāntagāminaḥ ||
trigartāḥ saṃnyavartanta saṃtaptāḥ svajanaṃ prati ||
There we beheld a wonder — the deed of Shaineya in battle: having seen him in the western direction, we saw him, by his swiftness, in the eastern. Rushing thus to the north, south, east, and west, the hero moved as if dancing, so that it seemed like a hundred chariots. Having seen that deed of his, who strode with a lion's stride, the Trigartas, distressed, turned back to their own people.

Satyaki, flashing at every quarter, seems like a hundred chariots: supreme swiftness makes one man appear as many. It is significant that his fighting is likened to a dance: perfect mastery turns deadly labor into effortless motion. The verse teaches that self-command joined with skill makes a warrior seem everywhere at once to his foe; and where others see a hundred, there stands one, whose wholeness of spirit multiplies him as a dancer multiplies before the eyes of onlookers.
