तव कोपाग्निना दग्धः पापो राजा जयद्रथः ॥
उदीर्णं चापि सुमहद् धार्तराष्ट्रबलं रणे ॥
हन्यते निहतं चैव विनङ्क्ष्यति च भारत ॥
तव क्रोधहता ह्य् एते कौरवाः शत्रुसूदन ॥
त्वां हि चक्षुर्हणं वीरं कोपयित्वा सुयोधनः ॥
समित्रबन्धुः समरे प्राणांस् त्यक्ष्यति दुर्मतिः ॥
tava kopāgninā dagdhaḥ pāpo rājā jayadrathaḥ ||
udīrṇaṃ cāpi sumahad dhārtarāṣṭrabalaṃ raṇe ||
hanyate nihataṃ caiva vinaṅkṣyati ca bhārata ||
tava krodhahatā hy ete kauravāḥ śatrusūdana ||
tvāṃ hi cakṣurhaṇaṃ vīraṃ kopayitvā suyodhanaḥ ||
samitrabandhuḥ samare prāṇāṃs tyakṣyati durmatiḥ ||
[Krishna and Arjuna:] "The evil king Jayadratha has been burned by the fire of your wrath; and the vast army of Dhartarashtra that has risen up in battle is being destroyed, already as good as slain, and will perish, O Bharata. For these Kauravas are struck down by your wrath, O destroyer of enemies. For having angered you, the hero who slays with a single glance, Suyodhana, the dull-witted one, will part with his life in battle, together with his friends and kinsmen."

Krishna and Arjuna return the praise to the king: not their weapons but his wrath, the wrath of the righteous, has burned the enemies. Notable is "cakṣurhaṇam" — one who slays with a glance: the anger of the gentle Yudhishthira, rare and therefore terrible, is more destructive than any arrow. The verse teaches that provoking the wrath of a long-suffering righteous man is the most dangerous thing of all; and one who offends the meek brings upon himself a punishment all the more fearsome the longer it was withheld.
