ततस् तु सात्यकेर् अर्थे भीमसेनो नवं दृढम् ॥
मुमोच परिघं घोरं सोमदत्तस्य मूर्धनि ॥
सात्यकिश् चाग्निसंकाशं मुमोच शरम् उत्तमम् ॥
सोमदत्तोरसि क्रुद्धः सुपत्रं निशितं युधि ॥
युगपत् पेततुर् अथ घोरौ परिघमार्गणौ ॥
शरीरे सोमदत्तस्य स पपात महारथः ॥

Translation

Then, for Satyaki's sake, Bhimasena hurled a new, firm, terrible parigha at Somadatta's head; and Satyaki, enraged, hurled at Somadatta's chest a fire-like, excellent arrow, well-feathered and sharp, in battle. The terrible parigha and arrow fell together upon Somadatta's body; he fell, the great warrior.

Commentary

The two friends, Bhima and Satyaki, strike Somadatta together, with parigha and arrow at once: the harmony of comrades decides the outcome. Tellingly, both fight "for Satyaki's sake" and for one another — friendship multiplies strength. The verse teaches that the strength of brothers-in-arms lies in their harmony; and what one alone might not achieve, two acting as one accomplish together at a stroke — a lesson in the power of unity of purpose.
