तः र्वाणि सैन्यानि शिष्टानि यानि वै
सेनागोप्तॄन् थादिश्य पुनर् व्यूहम् ल्पयत्
द्रोणः पुस्ताज् ने तु ल्यस्; था द्रौणिः पार्श्वतः सौलश्
स्वयं तु र्वाणि लानि राजन्; राजाभ्ययाद् गोयन् वै निशायाम्
वा र्वांश् दातिसंघान्; दुर्योनः पार्थि सान्त्वपूर्वम्
त्सृज्य र्वे मायुधानि; गृह्णी स्तैर् ज्वलितान् प्रदीपान्
ते चोदिताः पार्थित्तमे; तः प्रहृष्टा गृहुः प्रदीपान्
सा भू ध्वजिनी विक्ता; व्यरोताग्निप्रया निशायाम्

saṃjaya uvāca
tataḥ sarvāṇi sainyāni hataśiṣṭāni ni vai ||
segoptṝn athādiśya punar vyūham akalpayat ||
droṇaḥ purastāj jaghane tu śalyas; tathā drauṇiḥ rśvataḥ saubalaś ca ||
svayaṃ tu sarvāṇi bani jan; rābhyad gopayan vai niśāyām ||
uca sarvāṃś ca patisaṃghān; duryodhanaḥ rthiva ntvarvam ||
utsṛjya sarve parayudhāni; gṛhṇīta hastair jvalin prapān ||
te coditāḥ rthivasattamena; tataḥ prahṛṣṭā jagṛhuḥ prapān ||
bhūya eva dhvaji vibhaktā; vyarocagniprabha niśāyām ||

Translation

Then all the hosts that had survived the carnage -- having appointed their commanders, [Drona] arranged the battle order once more. Drona in front, Shalya in the rear, Drauni [Ashvatthaman] and Saubala [Shakuni] on the flanks; and he himself, guarding all the forces, O king, the king [Duryodhana] went about in the night. And Duryodhana addressed all the companies of foot, O sovereign, gently: "Lay aside all your finest weapons, take blazing lamps in your hands." Urged on by the best of kings, they then joyfully took up the lamps; and that host, divided anew among them, shone with fire's radiance in the night.
