ततो विनिद्रा विश्रान्ताश् चन्द्रमस्य् उदिते पुनः ॥
संसाधयिष्यथान्योन्यं स्वर्गाय कुरुपाण्डवाः ॥
तद् वचः सर्वधर्मज्ञा धार्मिकस्य निशम्य ते ॥
अरोचयन्त सैन्यानि तथा चान्योन्यम् अब्रुवन् ॥
चुक्रुशुः कर्ण कर्णेति राजन् दुर्योधनेति च ॥
उपारमत पाण्डूनां विरता हि वरूथिनी ॥
तथा विक्रोशमानस्य फल्गुनस्य ततस् ततः ॥
उपारमत पाण्डूनां सेना तव च भारत ॥
tato vinidrā viśrāntāś candramasy udite punaḥ ||
saṃsādhayiṣyathānyonyaṃ svargāya kurupāṇḍavāḥ ||
tad vacaḥ sarvadharmajñā dhārmikasya niśamya te ||
arocayanta sainyāni tathā cānyonyam abruvan ||
cukruśuḥ karṇa karṇeti rājan duryodhaneti ca ||
upāramata pāṇḍūnāṃ viratā hi varūthinī ||
tathā vikrośamānasya phalgunasya tatas tataḥ ||
upāramata pāṇḍūnāṃ senā tava ca bhārata ||
‘Then, refreshed and rested, when the moon rises again, fight one another for heaven's sake, O Kurus and Pandavas.’ Hearing that word from the righteous one [Arjuna], the armies, knowers of every dharma, approved it, and so said to one another. They cried out: ‘Karna, Karna!’, O king, and ‘Duryodhana!’ — ‘Rest awhile! For the Pandava army has ceased fighting.’ Thus, at the call of Phalguna, here and there, the Pandava army came to a halt, and yours as well, O Bharata.

Arjuna's call is heeded by both armies: enemies call to one another by their leaders' names, quieting the battle. It is significant that in the very heat of hostility warriors on both sides alike heed a word of mercy. The verse teaches that even amid fierce enmity the common humanity in men remains alive: weariness and the need for rest make enemies equal; and a kind word spoken at the right moment can, for a moment, halt even mutual slaughter — for beneath an enemy's armor beats the same exhausted heart.
