नेहास्ति पुरुषः कश् चिद् य इमं पापपूरुषम् ॥
भाषमाणम् अकल्याणं शीघ्रं हन्यान् नराधमम् ॥
कथं च शतधा जिह्वा न ते मूर्धा च दीर्यते ॥
गुरुम् आक्रोशतः क्षुद्र न चाधर्मेण पात्यसे ॥
याप्यस् त्वम् असि पार्थैश् च सर्वैश् चान्धकवृष्णिभिः ॥
यत् कर्म कलुषं कृत्वा श्लाघसे जनसंसदि ॥
nehāsti puruṣaḥ kaś cid ya imaṃ pāpapūruṣam ||
bhāṣamāṇam akalyāṇaṃ śīghraṃ hanyān narādhamam ||
kathaṃ ca śatadhā jihvā na te mūrdhā ca dīryate ||
gurum ākrośataḥ kṣudra na cādharmeṇa pātyase ||
yāpyas tvam asi pārthaiś ca sarvaiś cāndhakavṛṣṇibhiḥ ||
yat karma kaluṣaṃ kṛtvā ślāghase janasaṃsadi ||
[Satyaki said:] 'Is there no man here who would quickly slay this sinful man, speaking evil, the vilest of men? And how do your tongue and head not split into a hundred pieces — you who revile the guru, o contemptible one, and are not struck down by lawlessness? You are despised by the Parthas and by all the Andhakas and Vrishnis, since, having done a foul deed, you boast of it in the assembly of people.'

Satyaki flares where others kept silent: he calls for the killer of the guru to be struck down. It is telling that what enrages him most is not the killing itself, but the boasting of it — arrogance heaped upon sin. The verse teaches that there is a measure that overflows the cup even in the restrained; yet Satyaki's anger too is not impartial — for behind it, as will soon appear, lies his own wounded pride and his own imperfect conscience, ready to denounce in another what is present in himself.
