सः ईक्षत कथम् नु इदम् मत् ऋते स्यात् इति सः ईक्षत कतरेण प्रपद्यै इति सः ईक्षत यदि वाचा अभिव्याहृतम् यदि प्राणेन अभिप्राणितम् यदि चक्षुषा दृष्टम् यदि श्रोत्रेण श्रुतम् यदि त्वचा स्पृष्टम् यदि मनसा ध्यातम् यदि अपानेन अभ्यपानितम् यदि शिश्नेन विसृष्टम् अथ कः अहम् इति

saḥ īkṣata katham nu idam mat ṛte syāt iti saḥ īkṣata katareṇa prapadyai iti saḥ īkṣata yadi vācā abhivyāhṛtam yadi prāṇena abhiprāṇitam yadi cakṣuṣā dṛṣṭam yadi śrotreṇa śrutam yadi tvacā spṛṣṭam yadi manasā dhyātam yadi apānena abhyapānitam yadi śiśnena visṛṣṭam atha kaḥ aham iti

Translation

He beheld: "How could this be without Me?" He beheld: "By which [way] shall I enter?" He beheld: "If speech utters, if breath inhales, if the eye sees, if hearing hears, if the skin feels, if the mind thinks, if the apāna swallows, if the generative organ emits — then who am I?"
