Translation
He, by this conscious Ātman, ascending from this world and obtaining all desires in that heavenly world, became immortal. Became [immortal].

The last verse of the Aitareya — the departure of the knower: sa etena prajñenātmanā — "he, by this conscious Ātman" — that very Prajñāna-Brahman now recognised as his own being — asmāl lokād utkramya — "ascending from this world" — amuṣmin svarge loke sarvān kāmān āptvā — "obtaining all desires in that shining world" — amṛtaḥ samabhavat samabhavat — "became immortal, became".
The formula repeats the close of the second chapter (verse 29) — but with a decisive substitution: there it was "one who knows thus" (vidvān) who ascended, here it is "by the conscious Ātman": it is not the man who carries off the knowledge — it is Consciousness that carries off the man: the ascent is accomplished by Prajñāna Himself, by Him who once entered through the suture of the crown and cried "This I have seen!": the circle of the book is closed: He who entered goes out — with the harvest.
So ends the Aitareya, the Upaniṣad of the great circle: the Ātman alone — beheld — created — moulded man — entered into him — recognised Himself in everything — and in the knower returns, all desires fulfilled, into immortality. Creation turns out to be the journey of Consciousness towards self-recognition through man; and every reader holds in his hands the map of his own route: the same Light that in you is called memory, thought and desire is Brahman, and His way home lies through your "who am I?"
