"[Kadru sang:] 'Homage to you, lord of the gods of gods; homage to you, slayer of Bala; slayer of Namuchi, homage to you, thousand-eyed husband of Shachi! For the serpents scorched by the sun, become a saving flood of waters; you are our highest refuge, o best of the immortals. For you alone have the power to pour forth abundant waters, o Purandara; you are the cloud, you are the wind, you are the lightning-fire in the sky. You cleave the massed clouds asunder; yet you too are called the cloud itself; you are the incomparable, terrible thunderbolt, you are the roaring rain-cloud. You alone are the creator of the worlds and their unconquered destroyer; you are the light of all beings, you are the sun (Aditya), you are the radiant one (Vibhavasu). You are the great, wondrous Being, you are the king, you are the best of the gods; you are Vishnu, you are the thousand-eyed, you are the god, you are the [highest] refuge. You are all, [you are] the nectar of immortality, o god; you are the highly honored Soma; you are both the muhurta and the tithi, you are the lava, you are the kshana. You are the bright and dark [halves of the month], the kala, the kashtha, the truti; [you are] the year, the seasons, the months, the nights and the days. You are the supreme earth with its mountains and forests, and the sky with its sun, free of darkness; [you are] the great ocean too, with its whales, sea-monsters and leviathans, many-waved, [full] of fish. With great glory you are ever honored by the wise and by the great seers, glad at heart; praised, you drink the soma at the sacrifice and [receive] the oblations sanctified by the cry 'vashat,' for the sake of [universal] welfare. The brahmins ceaselessly worship you here with sacrifices for the sake of the fruit [they seek], and you, whose strength is immeasurable, are extolled in the vedangas; for your sake the lords of the twice-born, devoted to sacrifice, master the vedangas together with all the Vedas.'"
