"For my life depends upon you, whose voice is like the song of the kinnaras, lovely one, faultless in every limb, with a face like the lotus and the moon. Without you, O timid one, I shall not be able to live by myself; therefore show compassion toward me, O wide-eyed maiden. Me, devoted to you, O dark-eyed one, you must not abandon; you must save me through the bond of love, O beautiful one. And unite with me in gandharva marriage, O beautiful one; for of marriages, O you of lovely thighs, the gandharva is said to be the best."

Here the king seeks union at once — by mutual attraction. It is telling that he calls for a gandharva marriage, which is accomplished by the consent of the lovers alone, without rite or elders: passion hurries, seeking the shortest path. Here it is revealed that even a permitted form of marriage does not set aside prudence: the haste of passion is prone to bypass due order. So the verse shows the impatience of one in love, ready for union at once; and his impulse will soon be balanced by the wisdom of the maiden, who calls for the consent of her elders.
