मम च अपि भवेत् एतत् ईश्वरस्य सतः महत्mama ca api bhavet etat īśvarasya sataḥ mahatand for me too, [being] a lord, this would be a great [calamity] --
उपेक्षमाणस्य पुनः लोकानां किल्बिषात् भयम्upekṣamāṇasya punaḥ lokānāṃ kilbiṣāt bhayamfor one who disregards [evil] -- fear of sin [for the sins] of the worlds;
यः च अयं मन्युजः मे अग्निः लोकान् आदातुम् इच्छतिyaḥ ca ayaṃ manyujaḥ me agniḥ lokān ādātum icchatiand this fire, born of my anger, wishing to consume the worlds,
दहेत् एषः च माम् एव निगृहीतः स्वतेजसाdahet eṣaḥ ca mām eva nigṛhītaḥ svatejasāwould burn me myself, [being] restrained, by its own heat;
भवतां च विजानामि सर्वलोकहितेप्सुताम्bhavatāṃ ca vijānāmi sarvalokahitepsutāmand I know your desire for the good of all worlds;

Here Aurva reveals a dilemma resolvable only by wisdom. His position is telling: to leave evil unpunished is sin, and to restrain the anger once born is his own destruction; between two evils he seeks a way out. From this it is seen that there are impasses unconquerable by one's own strength, where the counsel of the wise is needed. Telling too is Aurva's humility: he entrusts the decision to the ancestors, trusting in their good will toward the worlds. Thus the scripture shows that in the irresolvable one must turn to higher wisdom; and Aurva, confessing his own powerlessness, places the outcome in the hands of his elders.
