वैशंपायन उवाच
ते दृष्ट्वा तत्र तिष्ठन्तीं सर्वे कृष्णां यशस्विनीम् ॥
संप्रेक्ष्यान्योन्यम् आसीना हृदयैस् ताम् अधारयन् ॥
तेषां हि द्रौपदीं दृष्ट्वा सर्वेषाम् अमितौजसाम् ॥
संप्रमथ्येन्द्रियग्रामं प्रादुरासीन् मनोभवः ॥
vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca
te dṛṣṭvā tatra tiṣṭhantīṃ sarve kṛṣṇāṃ yaśasvinīm ||
saṃprekṣyānyonyam āsīnā hṛdayais tām adhārayan ||
teṣāṃ hi draupadīṃ dṛṣṭvā sarveṣām amitaujasām ||
saṃpramathyendriyagrāmaṃ prādurāsīn manobhavaḥ ||
"All of them, having seen the renowned Krishna standing there, having looked at one another, held her in their hearts; for, having seen Draupadi, in all of them, of measureless might, having stirred the whole assembly of the senses, love arose."

Here it is revealed that all the brothers are captivated by a single maiden. It is significant that love for Draupadi visited all the Pandavas at once: what for others would become the cause of strife sets the brothers before a trial of unity. Here looms a danger of discord that must be wisely averted: a shared attraction threatens to split a harmonious line. Significant too is that they "held her in their hearts," having looked at one another — and did not quarrel: even in passion the brothers preserve harmony. Thus the text shows the knot of the difficulty being tied; and the love that visited all of them will demand a decision that preserves their unity.
