वैशंपायन उवाच
तत उत्थाय भगवान् व्यासो द्वैपायनः प्रभुः ॥
करे गृहीत्वा राजानं राजवेश्म समाविशत् ॥
पाण्डवाश् चापि कुन्ती च धृष्टद्युम्नश् च पार्षतः ॥
विचेतसस् ते तत्रैव प्रतीक्षन्ते स्म ताव् उभौ ॥
ततो द्वैपायनस् तस्मै नरेन्द्राय महात्मने ॥
आचख्यौ तद् यथा धर्मो बहूनाम् एकपत्निता ॥
vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca
tata utthāya bhagavān vyāso dvaipāyanaḥ prabhuḥ ||
kare gṛhītvā rājānaṃ rājaveśma samāviśat ||
pāṇḍavāś cāpi kuntī ca dhṛṣṭadyumnaś ca pārṣataḥ ||
vicetasas te tatraiva pratīkṣante sma tāv ubhau ||
tato dvaipāyanas tasmai narendrāya mahātmane ||
ācakhyau tad yathā dharmo bahūnām ekapatnitā ||
Vaishampayana said: 'Then, rising, the lord Vyasa Dvaipayana, taking the king by the hand, entered the royal chamber; and the Pandavas, and Kunti, and Dhrishtadyumna, in agitation, waited there for the two of them. And Dvaipayana declared to that lord of men how it is dharma that Draupadi is one wife of many.'

Here the mystery of dharma is entrusted in private to the worthy. It is telling that Vyasa takes Drupada by the hand and leads him away: the deep explanation is given face to face, in confidential closeness. This shows that certain knowledge is passed on, as from teacher to disciple, in private rather than in the marketplace. Thus scripture shows the reverent manner of transmitting the hidden, and those waiting in agitation will soon learn the resolution from the king's own lips.
