वैशंपायन उवाच
एवम् उक्त्वा ततो भीष्मो विरराम महायशाः ॥
व्याजहारोत्तरं तत्र सहदेवो ऽर्थवद् वचः ॥
केशवं केशिहन्तारम् अप्रमेयपराक्रमम् ॥
पूज्यमानं मया यो वः कृष्णं न सहते नृपाः ॥
सर्वेषां बलिनां मूर्ध्नि मयेदं निहितं पदम् ॥
एवम् उक्ते मया सम्यग् उत्तरं प्रब्रवीतु सः ॥
मतिमन्तस् तु ये के चिद् आचार्यं पितरं गुरुम् ॥
अर्च्यम् अर्चितम् अर्चार्हम् अनुजानन्तु ते नृपाः ॥
vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca
evam uktvā tato bhīṣmo virarāma mahāyaśāḥ ||
vyājahārottaraṃ tatra sahadevo 'rthavad vacaḥ ||
keśavaṃ keśihantāram aprameyaparākramam ||
pūjyamānaṃ mayā yo vaḥ kṛṣṇaṃ na sahate nṛpāḥ ||
sarveṣāṃ balināṃ mūrdhni mayedaṃ nihitaṃ padam ||
evam ukte mayā samyag uttaraṃ prabravītu saḥ ||
matimantas tu ye ke cid ācāryaṃ pitaraṃ gurum ||
arcyam arcitam arcārham anujānantu te nṛpāḥ ||
Having spoken thus, the greatly renowned Bhishma fell silent; and Sahadeva spoke in reply a weighty word: "Whoever among you, o kings, cannot bear that I honor Keshava, the slayer of Keshin, immeasurable in valor — upon the heads of all such strongmen I place this foot! Let him object to what I have rightly said, if he can. And let the wise among the kings approve this reverence for the teacher, the father, the guru — worthy of worship, worshipped, deserving honor."

Where Bhishma falls silent, Sahadeva, the youngest, rises to defend the honor of the Lord with a fearless challenge: his foot upon the heads of all who cannot bear it. It is telling that zeal for Krishna's glory heeds neither one's own youth nor the multitude of opponents: one who loves the Lord does not count enemies. The verse teaches that devotion gives birth to boldness — not for the sake of pride, but for the honor of the Beloved; and whoever truly reveres the Supreme is ready to stand alone against all who insult Him. The silence of elders does not bind the lips of one in whom zeal for the Lord burns.
