अपरे दशनैर् ओष्ठान् अदशन् क्रोधमूर्छिताः ॥
रहस् तु के चिद् वार्ष्णेयं प्रशशंसुर् नराधिपाः ॥
के चिद् एव तु संरब्धा मध्यस्थास् त्व् अपरे ऽभवन् ॥
प्रहृष्टाः केशवं जग्मुः संस्तुवन्तो महर्षयः ॥
ब्राह्मणाश् च महात्मानः पार्थिवाश् च महाबलाः ॥

Traducción

Some, indignant, clenched their own fingertips with their hands; others, seized by rage, bit their lips with their teeth. Yet some lords of men secretly praised the Vrishni scion; others were enraged, while still others remained indifferent. And the great sages, the great-souled brahmins, and the mighty kings, filled with joy, approached Keshava, praising him.

Comentario

One and the same act of the Lord splits the assembly into many faces: fury, secret praise, indifference, open rejoicing. It is telling that the Supreme's judgment lays bare what is hidden in hearts -- before His deed, each one reveals who he truly is. The verse teaches that the presence of God is a touchstone: it delights some, hardens others, and leaves still others cold. And most notable of all is that some praise "in secret," not daring to do so openly -- human fear binds fast even those who recognize the truth. This is how the faintheartedness of half-hearted faith shows itself; while wholeness belongs to those who, "filled with joy," openly approached Keshava, without concealment.
