भिनत्ति शिरसा शैलम् अहिं भोजयते च यः ॥

[Duryodhana:] "Whoever wants to split a rock with his head, or to feed a serpent, only vainly 'manages' its affairs. Whoever instructs by force gains an enemy thereby; but the wise would leave in peace one who follows in friendship. Whoever, having kindled a blazing fire, does not run first to put it out, will not find even the ashes left anywhere, O Bharata. One must not keep a hostile man from a rival camp in one's house, especially an enemy, Kshattri; go wherever you wish, Vidura; for even a well-placated, unfaithful wife leaves her husband."

Having reached the limit, Duryodhana banishes the last honest counselor: "go wherever you wish." It is telling that falsehood, unable to bear the truth, drives away the one who carries it: where an argument cannot be refuted, its bearer is removed. The verse teaches that rejecting a wise counselor is the second-to-last step toward ruin — a court left without a truthful voice is doomed to flattery and disaster. And likening Vidura to "an unfaithful wife who leaves her husband" is the height of perversion: the most faithful is called unfaithful, the one who saves is driven out as an enemy. Whoever banishes the one who speaks him the truth shuts, with his own hand, the door to his own salvation; and the empty place of the honest counselor will be filled by a flatterer leading to the abyss.
