The Pandavas, best of the Bharatas, setting out for a life in the forest, went from the bank of the Ganga to Kurukshetra together with their companions. Having honored the Sarasvati, the Drishadvati, and the Yamuna, they moved from forest to forest, ever westward. Then on the bank of the Sarasvati, in the level lands of Marudhanva, they beheld the forest called Kamyaka, beloved of the sages. There the heroes settled in that forest, rich in beasts and birds, surrounded and comforted by the sages.

The path of the Pandavas passes through sacred rivers and Kurukshetra: exile does not tear them out of sacred geography. They lose the city, but enter the space of the rishis, where royal dharma must ripen in silence.
