तत् काननम् प्राप्य नरेन्द्रपुत्राः सुखोचिताः वासम् उपेत्य कृच्छ्रम् विजह्रुः इन्द्रप्रतिमाः शिवेषु सरस्वतीशालवनेषु तेषुtat kānanam prāpya narendraputrāḥ sukhocitāḥ vāsam upetya kṛcchram vijahruḥ indrapratimāḥ śiveṣu sarasvatīśālavaneṣu teṣuhaving reached that forest, the princes, accustomed to happiness yet come to a hard dwelling, resembling Indra, lived in those blessed forests of Sarasvati and sala trees
यतीन् च सर्वान् स मुनीन् च राजा तस्मिन् वने मूलफलैः उदग्रैः द्विजातिमुख्यान् ऋषभः कुरूणाम् संतर्पयाम् आस महानुभावःyatīn ca sarvān sa munīn ca rājā tasmin vane mūlaphalaiḥ udagraiḥ dvijātimukhyān ṛṣabhaḥ kurūṇām saṃtarpayām āsa mahānubhāvaḥthe king, the bull of the Kurus, of great soul, in that forest satisfied all the yatis, munis, and foremost twice-born with excellent roots and fruits
इष्टीः च पित्र्याणि तथा अग्रियाणि महावने वसताम् पाण्डवानाम् पुरोहितः सर्वसमृद्धतेजाः चकार धौम्यः पितृवत् कुरूणाम्iṣṭīḥ ca pitryāṇi tathā agriyāṇi mahāvane vasatām pāṇḍavānām purohitaḥ sarvasamṛddhatejāḥ cakāra dhaumyaḥ pitṛvat kurūṇāmand the priest Dhaumya, full of abundant radiance, like a father to the Kurus, performed for the Pandavas dwelling in the great forest the ishti and the foremost ancestral rites
अपेत्य राष्ट्रात् वसताम् तु तेषाम् ऋषिः पुराणः अतिथिः आजगाम तम् आश्रमम् तीव्रसमृद्धतेजाः मार्कण्डेयः श्रीमताम् पाण्डवानाम्apetya rāṣṭrāt vasatām tu teṣām ṛṣiḥ purāṇaḥ atithiḥ ājagāma tam āśramam tīvrasamṛddhatejāḥ mārkaṇḍeyaḥ śrīmatām pāṇḍavānāmto them, dwelling far from the kingdom, there came as a guest the ancient sage into this hermitage of the glorious Pandavas -- Markandeya, of powerful and perfect radiance
स सर्ववित् द्रौपदीम् प्रेक्ष्य कृष्णाम् युधिष्ठिरम् भीमसेनार्जुनौ च संस्मृत्य रामम् मनसा महात्मा तपस्विमध्ये अस्मयत अमिततेजाःsa sarvavit draupadīm prekṣya kṛṣṇām yudhiṣṭhiram bhīmasenārjunau ca saṃsmṛtya rāmam manasā mahātmā tapasvimadhye asmayata amitatejāḥhe, the all-knowing, magnanimous one of boundless radiance, seeing Draupadi-Krishna, Yudhishthira, Bhimasena and Arjuna, recalled Rama in his mind and smiled among the ascetics
तम् धर्मराजः विमनाः इव अब्रवीत् सर्वे ह्रिया सन्ति तपस्विनः अमी भवान् इदम् किम् स्मयति इव हृष्टः तपस्विनाम् पश्यताम् माम् उदीक्ष्यtam dharmarājaḥ vimanāḥ iva abravīt sarve hriyā santi tapasvinaḥ amī bhavān idam kim smayati iva hṛṣṭaḥ tapasvinām paśyatām mām udīkṣyathe king of dharma, as if troubled in mind, said to him: 'all these ascetics are full of shame; why, looking at me among the watching ascetics, do you smile as though rejoicing'
