Having beheld the gods and the illustrious king, Bhaimi, in accordance with dharma, chose the lord of Nishadha. Blushing, the wide-eyed one took hold of the hem of his garment, placed upon his shoulders a most beautiful garland, and chose him as her husband. Then a cry of "Ah!" suddenly burst from the kings. And the gods and the great sages, astonished, exclaimed, "Well done! Well done!" — praising King Nala. When Bhaimi had chosen the lord of Nishadha, the mighty guardians of the world, their hearts full of joy, all gave Nala eight boons. Shakra, the delighted lord of Shachi, gave the lord of Nishadha visible presence at sacrifices and the highest, most auspicious path. Agni granted his own presence wherever the lord of Nishadha might wish, along with self-luminous worlds. Yama gave the savor of food and the highest steadfastness in dharma. The lord of the waters gave the nature of water wherever the lord of Nishadha might wish. All of them gave him a garland rich with the finest fragrance, and the fullness of married life. Having bestowed these boons upon him, the gods departed for the third heaven.

The gods do not punish Damayanti for choosing Nala; instead, they bless the union. The higher powers uphold a choice grounded in purity and dharma.
