Traducción

Lomasha said: "Bharadvaja, son of Kunti, having performed his svadhyaya and daily rite, took up a bundle of firewood and entered his ashram. Before, when the fires saw him, all of them would rise to meet him; but now, since his son had been killed, the fires did not greet him. Noticing the change in the agnihotra, the man of great austerity said to the blind shudra who sat as guard of the house: 'Why, shudra, do my fires no longer rejoice at the sight of me? And you too are not as you were before. Is all well here in the ashram? Has my faint-hearted son perhaps gone to Raibhya? Tell me quickly, for my mind finds no peace.' The shudra said: 'Surely this foolish son of yours has gone to Raibhya, for he lies slain by a rakshasa mightier than himself. When this rakshasa, spear in hand, was pursuing him, he ran toward the fire-house, but at the door I held him back with my arms. Then he was killed there, wanting water, surely impure, swiftly overtaken by the rakshasa with the raised spear.'"
