स तस्या ब्रह्महत्यायाः पारं गत्वा युधिष्ठिर ॥
अर्वावसुस् तदा सत्रम् आजगाम पुनर् मुनिः ॥
ततः परावसुर् दृष्ट्वा भ्रातरं समुपस्थितम् ॥
बृहद्द्युम्नम् उवाचेदं वचनं परिषद्गतम् ॥
एष ते ब्रह्महा यज्ञं मा द्रष्टुं प्रविशेद् इति ॥
ब्रह्महा प्रेक्षितेनापि पीडयेत् त्वां न संशयः ॥
प्रेष्यैर् उत्सार्यमाणस् तु राजन्न् अर्वावसुस् तदा ॥
न मया ब्रह्महत्येयं कृतेत्य् आह पुनः पुनः ॥
उच्यमानो ऽसकृत् प्रेष्यैर् ब्रह्महन्न् इति भारत ॥
नैव स प्रतिजानाति ब्रह्महत्यां स्वयं कृताम् ॥
मम भ्रात्रा कृतम् इदं मया तु परिरक्षितम् ॥
प्रीतास् तस्याभवन् देवाः कर्मणार्वावसोर् नृप ॥
तं ते प्रवरयाम् आसुर् निरासुश् च परावसुम् ॥
ततो देवा वरं तस्मै ददुर् अग्निपुरोगमाः ॥
स चापि वरयाम् आस पितुर् उत्थानम् आत्मनः ॥
अनागस्त्वं तथा भ्रातुः पितुश् चास्मरणं वधे ॥
भरद्वाजस्य चोत्थानं यवक्रीतस्य चोभयोः ॥

Traducción

Lomasha said: Having gone through to the end that atonement for the killing of a brahmin, O Yudhishthira, the sage Arvavasu came once more to the sattra. Seeing that his brother had arrived, Paravasu said to Brihaddyumna in the assembly: "This slayer of a brahmin must not enter to watch your sacrifice. Even by a single glance, the slayer of a brahmin will, without doubt, do you harm." When the servants, O king, drove Arvavasu away, he said again and again: "This killing of a brahmin was not done by me." Though the servants repeatedly called him a slayer of a brahmin, O Bharata, he himself did not admit that he had committed the brahmahatya: "This was done by my brother, and I only purified it." The gods, O king, were pleased with the deed of Arvavasu. They chose him and cast out Paravasu. Then the gods, with Agni at their head, gave him a boon. And he chose for himself the revival of his father, as well as his brother's innocence and that their father should not remember the killing; and further, the revival of both Bharadvaja and Yavakri.

Comentario

Arvavasu asks not for punishment but for restoration. His purity is seen in that he wishes good even for the brother who slandered him.
