Lomasha said: "At this very time, the great king Brihaddyumna, blessed and mighty, was performing a sattra, and Raibhya was his priest. The wise Brihaddyumna chose Raibhya's two sons, Arvavasu and Paravasu, as his assistants for the sattra. With their father's permission, O Kaunteya, the two of them set out for it; Raibhya and Paravasu's wife remained behind in the ashram. One day Paravasu went home alone to look in, and in the forest he saw his father, wrapped in a black antelope skin. In the last watch of the night, blinded by sleep, while darkness still remained, he mistook his father, who was walking in the dense forest, for a wild beast. Taking him for a beast, he unwittingly killed his father, wishing only to protect his own body. Having performed all the funeral rites, O Bharata, he came again to the sattra and said to his brother: 'You alone can never bear this task. For I have killed our father, mistaking him for a beast. For our sake, perform well the vow of atonement for the killing of a brahmin; and I, O sage, am able to carry out this work alone.' Arvavasu said: 'Let you carry on the sattra of the wise Brihaddyumna. I, restraining my senses, will perform the brahmahatya-vow for your sake.'"
