Having seen the gods, the embarrassed and frightened young Kunti said to Surya: 'Go to your chariot, lord of cattle. For a maiden, such treatment is agonizing. Father, mother, and elders have authority over the giving of this body; I shall not violate dharma in the world, for the protection of the body is honored among women's conduct. I summoned you, Vibhavasu, only to learn the power of the mantra. Forgive me, lord, for my childishness.' Surya replied: 'Considering you young, I grant you this indulgence; no one else would receive such indulgence. Give yourself, daughter of Kunti, and thus your peace will come. It is not fitting for me to depart deceived: I would become a laughingstock in the world and a subject of talk among all the gods. Unite with me, and you will obtain a son like myself; you will become distinguished in all the worlds.'

Kunti tries to hold on to the dharma of maidenly purity, but is already bound by the power of the invocation. The birth of Karna begins from a knot of fear, divine power, and inexperience.
