युधिष्ठिर उवाच
इयं तु नः प्रिया भार्या प्राणेभ्यो ऽपि गरीयसी ॥
मातेव परिपाल्या च पूज्या ज्येष्ठेव च स्वसा ॥
केन स्म कर्मणा कृष्णा द्रौपदी विचरिष्यति ॥
न हि किं चिद् विजानाति कर्म कर्तुं यथा स्त्रियः ॥
सुकुमारी च बाला च राजपुत्री यशस्विनी ॥
पतिव्रता महाभागा कथं नु विचरिष्यति ॥
माल्यगन्धान् अलंकारान् वस्त्राणि विविधानि च ॥
एतान्य् एवाभिजानाति यतो जाता हि भामिनी ॥
yudhiṣṭhira uvāca
iyaṃ tu naḥ priyā bhāryā prāṇebhyo 'pi garīyasī ||
māteva paripālyā ca pūjyā jyeṣṭheva ca svasā ||
kena sma karmaṇā kṛṣṇā draupadī vicariṣyati ||
na hi kiṃ cid vijānāti karma kartuṃ yathā striyaḥ ||
sukumārī ca bālā ca rājaputrī yaśasvinī ||
pativratā mahābhāgā kathaṃ nu vicariṣyati ||
mālyagandhān alaṃkārān vastrāṇi vividhāni ca ||
etāny evābhijānāti yato jātā hi bhāminī ||
Yudhishthira said: "But this beloved wife of ours is dearer to us than life itself. She must be cared for like a mother and honored like an elder sister. By what work will Krishna Draupadi live? She truly knows nothing of the labor that women usually do. She is delicate, young, a king's daughter, renowned, devoted to her husbands, greatly fortunate. How then will she live? She knows only garlands, fragrances, ornaments, and various fine garments, for she was born amid such things, radiant as she is."
