Traducción

Vaishampayana said: 'At that time all his kinsmen gathered together. Surrounding Kichaka on every side and seeing him, they wept. Seeing Kichaka with his hair standing on end in horror, all his limbs drawn together like a tortoise pulled onto dry land, crushed by Bhima as a danava is crushed by Indra, they all wished to perform the funeral rites over him and began to carry him outside. Then the gathered sons of the suta saw Krishna, faultless of body, standing not far off and embracing a pillar. When the sutas had gathered, one of the upakichakas said to them: "Quickly kill this faithless woman, for whose sake Kichaka was killed. Or rather, she should not be killed here: let her be burned together with the man who desired her. In every way what is pleasing must be done for the son of the suta, even when he is dead." Then they said to Virata: "Kichaka was killed because of her. Let her be burned today together with him. You must grant permission for this." Thinking of the strength of the sutas, the king consented to the burning of Sairandhri together with the son of the suta, O lord of men. Approaching the frightened, lotus-eyed Krishna, who had lost her composure, the Kichakas seized her firmly. Then, having laid the slender-waisted woman upon a litter and bound her, they all lifted her up and set out for the cremation ground.'
