As she was being carried off, O king, the blameless Krishna, though she had protectors, cried out, longing for a protector: 'Jaya, Jayanta, Vijaya, Jayatsena, Jayadbala! Let them recognize my voice: the sons of the suta are carrying me away! Those whose fearsome twang of bowstrings, like the crash of thunder, was heard in the great battle, and the mighty rumble of the chariots of the glorious gandharvas — let them recognize my voice: the sons of the suta are carrying me away!' Hearing Krishna's pitiful lament, Bhima sprang up at once from his bed, without pausing to think. Bhimasena said: 'I hear your voice, Sairandhri, spoken by you. Therefore you have nothing to fear from the sons of the suta, timid one.' Having said this, the mighty-armed one stretched his body, eager to kill; then he braced his frame, changed his appearance, and, leaping out not through the door, went outside.

Draupadi calls out secret names, and Bhima hears. A protector is not always visibly near, but devotion makes the call effective.
