A severed head could be seen -- its upper lip trimmed, its nose shapely, its hair arranged, adorned, covered in dust, its earrings still on. There, in the great battle, the limbs of kshatriyas could be seen, cut to pieces by arrows, like the trunks of shala trees. The earth was strewn with arms resembling the bodies of serpents, anointed with sandalwood, and with heads still wearing their earrings. The earthly dust settled under the spreading blood; a terrible bewilderment set in, and the battle became boundless. Shatanika, having slain a hundred, and wide-eyed Vishalaksha, having slain four hundred -- both great charioteers -- entered the vast army of the Trigartas. Fiercely enraged, they grappled hair to hair and nail to nail. Seeing that the two had entered the mass of the Trigartas' chariots, Suryadatta and Madirashva followed after them.
