सुचेतसौ बलिनौ शीघ्रहस्तौ; सुशिक्षितौ भ्रातरौ फल्गुनेन ॥
श्येनौ यथा पक्षिपूगान् रुजन्तौ; माद्रीपुत्रौ नेह कुरून् विशेताम् ॥
तेषां मध्ये वर्तमानस् तरस्वी; धृष्टद्युम्नः पाण्डवानाम् इहैकः ॥
सहामात्यः सोमकानां प्रबर्हः; संत्यक्तात्मा पाण्डवानां जयाय ॥
सहोषितश् चरितार्थो वयःस्थः; शाल्वेयानाम् अधिपो वै विराटः ॥
सह पुत्रैः पाण्डवार्थे च शश्वद्; युधिष्ठिरं भक्त इति श्रुतं मे ॥
अवरुद्धा बलिनः केकयेभ्यो; महेष्वासा भ्रातरः पञ्च सन्ति ॥
केकयेभ्यो राज्यम् आकाङ्क्षमाणा; युद्धार्थिनश् चानुवसन्ति पार्थान् ॥
सर्वे च वीराः पृथिवीपतीनां; समानीताः पाण्डवार्थे निविष्टाः ॥
शूरान् अहं भक्तिमतः शृणोमि; प्रीत्या युक्तान् संश्रितान् धर्मराजम् ॥

śūrān ahaṃ bhaktimataḥ śṛṇomi; prītyā yuktān saṃśritān dharmarājam ||
This army of ours, however full it may seem, will in truth be nowhere when it meets them. On their side stands Dhrishtadyumna, endowed with great vigor — he who is reckoned as one of the Pandavas themselves. I have heard that the chief of the Somaka tribe and his followers are so devoted to the Pandavas' cause that they are ready to lay down their lives for them. Who can stand against Yudhishthira, whose foremost champions are the finest of the Vrishni race — Krishna's own kin? I have heard that Virata, the chief of the Matsyas, with whom the Pandavas dwelt for a time and whose wishes they fulfilled, though advanced in years, is devoted along with his sons to the cause of the Pandavas and has become a follower of Yudhishthira. Cast down from the throne of the land of Kekaya and longing to be restored to it, the five mighty brothers of that land, wielders of powerful bows, now follow the sons of Pritha, ready for battle. All the valiant lords of the earth have gathered together and are devoted to the cause of the Pandavas. I hear that they are brave, worthy, and honorable — those who have joined the virtuous king Yudhishthira out of affection for him.
