न तु तस्मिन् प्रदेयं स्यात् तथा कार्यगतिः प्रभो ॥
विग्रहः समुपारब्धो न हि शाम्यत्य् अविग्रहात् ॥
वैशंपायन उवाच
तस्य तद् वचनं श्रुत्वा भीष्मः कुरुपितामहः ॥
वैचित्रवीर्यं राजानम् इदं वचनम् अब्रवीत् ॥
सत्कृतो ऽसत्कृतो वापि न क्रुध्येत जनार्दनः ॥
नालम् अन्यम् अवज्ञातुम् अवज्ञातो ऽपि केशवः ॥
यत् तु कार्यं महाबाहो मनसा कार्यतां गतम् ॥
सर्वोपायैर् न तच् छक्यं केन चित् कर्तुम् अन्यथा ॥
स यद् ब्रूयान् महाबाहुस् तत् कार्यम् अविशङ्कया ॥
वासुदेवेन तीर्थेन क्षिप्रं संशाम्य पाण्डवैः ॥

nālam anyam avajñātum avajñāto 'pi keśavaḥ ||
yat tu kāryaṃ mahābāho manasā kāryatāṃ gatam ||
sarvopāyair na tac chakyaṃ kena cit kartum anyathā ||
sa yad brūyān mahābāhus tat kāryam aviśaṅkayā ||
vāsudevena tīrthena kṣipraṃ saṃśāmya pāṇḍavaiḥ ||
O virtuous one, in your presence I shall offer worship to this illustrious scion of the Dasharha race. Hear me concerning this worship. I shall give him sixteen golden chariots, each yoked to four excellent and richly adorned horses of matching color and of the Vahlika breed. O Kaurava, I shall give him eight elephants that ever exude temporal fluid, with tusks as long as plow-shafts, capable of striking down hostile ranks, each attended by eight servants. I shall give him a hundred beautiful handmaidens of golden complexion, all of them maidens, and I shall give him an equal number of male slaves.
