"Duryodhana, O best of the Kurus, hear this word of mine, especially useful for you and for all who are bound to you, O Bharata. You are born in a noble lineage, O greatly wise one, endowed with learning, conduct, and every recognized virtue; it befits you to act rightly. Men of low birth, evil-souled, cruel, and shameless would do as you are thinking, child. In this world the conduct of the worthy is seen joined with dharma and purpose, while among the unworthy, O bull among the Bharatas, the opposite is seen. But such opposite conduct has repeatedly been seen in you, and a great, terrible, life-destroying adharmic outcome follows from it."

Krishna directs his instruction to Duryodhana directly and practically: to set aside pride, listen to friends, hold to dharma, and choose peace with the Pandavas. The point of this passage is not abstract morality but a warning of the concrete destruction of the dynasty, should the desire for power be placed above truth, kinship, and prudence.
