कुरूणां शमम् इच्छन्तं यतमानं च केशव ॥
विदित्वैताम् अवस्थां मे नातिशङ्कितुम् अर्हसि ॥
न मे पापो ऽस्त्य् अभिप्रायः पाण्डवान् प्रति केशव ॥
ज्ञातम् एव हि ते वाक्यं यन् मयोक्तः सुयोधनः ॥
जानन्ति कुरवः सर्वे राजानश् चैव पार्थिवाः ॥
शमे प्रयतमानं मां सर्वयत्नेन माधव ॥
ततो ऽब्रवीन् महाबाहुर् धृतराष्ट्रं जनेश्वरम् ॥
द्रोणं पितामहं भीष्मं क्षत्तारं बाह्लिकं कृपम् ॥
प्रत्यक्षम् एतद् भवतां यद् वृत्तं कुरुसंसदि ॥
यथा चाशिष्टवन् मन्दो रोषाद् असकृद् उत्थितः ॥
kurūṇāṃ śamam icchantaṃ yatamānaṃ ca keśava ||
viditvaitām avasthāṃ me nātiśaṅkitum arhasi ||
na me pāpo 'sty abhiprāyaḥ pāṇḍavān prati keśava ||
jñātam eva hi te vākyaṃ yan mayoktaḥ suyodhanaḥ ||
jānanti kuravaḥ sarve rājānaś caiva pārthivāḥ ||
śame prayatamānaṃ māṃ sarvayatnena mādhava ||
tato 'bravīn mahābāhur dhṛtarāṣṭraṃ janeśvaram ||
droṇaṃ pitāmahaṃ bhīṣmaṃ kṣattāraṃ bāhlikaṃ kṛpam ||
pratyakṣam etad bhavatāṃ yad vṛttaṃ kurusaṃsadi ||
yathā cāśiṣṭavan mando roṣād asakṛd utthitaḥ ||
"O Keshava, knowing this condition of mine, and that I desire peace for the Kurus and strive for it, you should not suspect me too much. I harbor no evil intention toward the Pandavas, O Keshava; you know well the words I spoke to Suyodhana. All the Kurus and all the kings of the earth know, O Madhava, that I strive for peace with every effort." Then the mighty-armed Krishna spoke to Dhritarashtra, lord of the people, and also to Drona, to the grandsire Bhishma, to the Kshattri Vidura, to Bahlika, and to Kripa: "You have seen with your own eyes all that took place in the assembly of the Kurus, and how this fool rose up repeatedly in anger, behaving like an ill-bred man."

Dhritarashtra excuses himself with a professed wish for peace, but Krishna fixes the fact before witnesses. What matters in this scene is its publicity: the Kuru elders have seen not only the plot but Duryodhana's repeated insolence, so ignorance is no longer possible.
