Likewise, upon the peak of Malyavan blazes the bearer of oblations, the fire named Samvartaka, the cosmic fire of time's end, O best of the Bharatas. On the eastern peak of Malyavan lies Purvantagandika; Malyavan extends for fifty thousand yojanas. There are born people resembling pure silver; all of them have descended from the world of Brahma, and all are speakers of Brahman. Performing austerity, they become keepers of continence, and for the protection of beings they enter the sun. These sixty thousand and sixty hundred more go before Aruna, surrounding the sun. Warmed by the sun's heat for sixty thousand and sixty hundred more years, they enter the orb of the moon.

This final passage joins cosmography with spiritual striving: the dwellers of Malyavan do not merely enjoy the fruits of merit but take up the role of protectors of beings. Their passage through the sun to the lunar disc shows that the higher realms are bound to sacrificial fire, continence, and service to the world.
