एष व्यूहामि ते राजन् व्यूहं परमदुर्जयम् ॥
अचलं नाम वज्राख्यं विहितं वज्रपाणिना ॥
यः स वात इवोद्धूतः समरे दुःसहः परैः ॥
स नः पुरो योत्स्यति वै भीमः प्रहरतां वरः ॥
तेजांसि रिपुसैन्यानां मृद्नन् पुरुषसत्तमः ॥
अग्रे ऽग्रणीर् यास्यति नो युद्धोपायविचक्षणः ॥
यं दृष्ट्वा पार्थिवाः सर्वे दुर्योधनपुरोगमाः ॥
निवर्तिष्यन्ति संभ्रान्ताः सिंहं क्षुद्रमृगा इव ॥
तं सर्वे संश्रयिष्यामः प्राकारम् अकुतोभयम् ॥
भीमं प्रहरतां श्रेष्ठं वज्रपाणिम् इवामराः ॥
न हि सो ऽस्ति पुमांल् लोके यः संक्रुद्धं वृकोदरम् ॥
द्रष्टुम् अत्युग्रकर्माणं विषहेत नरर्षभम् ॥
भीमसेनो गदां बिभ्रद् वज्रसारमयीं दृढाम् ॥
चरन् वेगेन महता समुद्रम् अपि शोषयेत् ॥
केकया धृष्टकेतुश् च चेकितानश् च वीर्यवान् ॥
एत तिष्ठन्ति सामात्याः प्रेक्षकास् ते नरेश्वर ॥
धृतराष्ट्रस्य दायादा इति बीभत्सुर् अब्रवीत् ॥
ब्रुवाणं तु तथा पार्थं सर्वसैन्यानि मारिष ॥
अपूजयंस् तदा वाग्भिर् अनुकूलाभिर् आहवे ॥

tejāṃsi ripusainyānāṃ mṛdnan puruṣasattamaḥ ||
agre 'graṇīr yāsyati no yuddhopāyavicakṣaṇaḥ ||
yaṃ dṛṣṭvā pārthivāḥ sarve duryodhanapurogamāḥ ||
nivartiṣyanti saṃbhrāntāḥ siṃhaṃ kṣudramṛgā iva ||
taṃ sarve saṃśrayiṣyāmaḥ prākāram akutobhayam ||
bhīmaṃ praharatāṃ śreṣṭhaṃ vajrapāṇim ivāmarāḥ ||
na hi so 'sti pumāṃl loke yaḥ saṃkruddhaṃ vṛkodaram ||
draṣṭum atyugrakarmāṇaṃ viṣaheta nararṣabham ||
bhīmaseno gadāṃ bibhrad vajrasāramayīṃ dṛḍhām ||
caran vegena mahatā samudram api śoṣayet ||
kekayā dhṛṣṭaketuś ca cekitānaś ca vīryavān ||
eta tiṣṭhanti sāmātyāḥ prekṣakās te nareśvara ||
dhṛtarāṣṭrasya dāyādā iti bībhatsur abravīt ||
bruvāṇaṃ tu tathā pārthaṃ sarvasainyāni māriṣa ||
apūjayaṃs tadā vāgbhir anukūlābhir āhave ||
Arjuna said: "O king, I shall array for you an array extremely hard to conquer, named Achala and known as Vajra, established by the wielder of the vajra himself. Bhima, the best of strikers, unbearable to foes in battle like a storm, will fight before us. Crushing the strength of the enemy's armies, this best of men, expert in the methods of war, will go as our foremost leader. Seeing him, all the kings led by Duryodhana will retreat in confusion, like small beasts before a lion. We shall all rely upon Bhima, the best of fighters, as upon a fearless wall, just as the immortals rely upon Vajrapani. There is no man in the world who could bear the sight of the enraged Vrikodara, that bull among men, terrible in his deeds. Bearing his firm mace, as if made of the very essence of the vajra, Bhimasena, moving with tremendous speed, could dry up even the ocean. The Kekayas, Dhrishtaketu, and valiant Chekitana stand here with their attendants as witnesses, O lord of men. Such are the heirs of Dhritarashtra" — thus spoke Bibhatsu. When the son of Pritha had spoken so, all the armies honored him in battle with approving words.

The Vajra-vyuha rests on a strength that does not merely crush the enemy but instills confidence in one's own side. Here the difference between numerical superiority and inner strength becomes visible.
