Traducción

Then the son of Vasudeva lifted with His arm the fair-naved discus, shining like the sun, mighty as the thunderbolt, with a razor-sharp edge; He leapt down from His chariot, letting the horses go, and, shaking the earth with His footsteps, rushed swiftly upon Bhishma. The great-souled Krishna advanced on him as a lion advances, wishing to tear apart a lordly elephant maddened and swollen with the pride of battle. The enraged younger brother of Indra, the destroyer, charged at Bhishma in the midst of the army; with the yellow hem of His garment streaming, He shone like a cloud in the sky girded with lightning. Shauri's Sudarshana blazed: that lotus-like discus, with His fine arm as its stalk, shone like the primeval lotus the color of the young sun, sprung from the navel of Narayana. Raised as though by the sun of Krishna's wrath, with razor-sharp, keen-edged petals, as though grown from His own broad chest, it shone with the stalk of Narayana's arm. Seeing the enraged younger brother of Indra, discus raised, roaring aloud, all beings cried out in terror, thinking: 'Now comes the destruction of the Kurus.' Vasudeva, discus in hand, as though to roll up the whole world of the living, sprang forward and blazed like the Teacher of the world, like the fire of time ready to consume all beings. Seeing the God, the foremost of bipeds, rushing toward him with the discus raised, Bhishma, son of Shantanu, standing on his chariot, bow and arrow in hand, spoke to Him without agitation: 'Come, come, O Lord of gods, abode of the universe! Homage to You, wielder of the Sharnga and the discus. O Lord of the world, refuge of all beings, cast me down by force from my splendid chariot in this battle. If I am slain by You today, O Krishna, that will be my welfare both in this world and in the world beyond. O Lord of the Andhakas and Vrishnis, hero, Your very advance upon me has already honored me throughout the three worlds.' Then Partha too leapt swiftly from his chariot, ran after the hero of the Yadus, and with his own strong, long arms seized Hari by both arms. But the primeval God, though held back, still greatly enraged — truly the wondrous Master of Yoga — dragged Jishnu along with Him by His force, as a great gale sweeps away a single tree. Yet Partha, planting his feet with all his strength, at last, with difficulty, restrained the diademed one, who was rushing swiftly toward Bhishma, only at the tenth step, O king. When Krishna had come to a halt, Arjuna, adorned with a bright golden garland, bowed before Him, pleased, and said: 'Restrain Your wrath, Keshava. You are the refuge of the Pandavas. The deed I have vowed will not be abandoned. I swear by my sons and by my brothers, O Keshava: together with You, O younger brother of Indra, I shall bring about the destruction of the Kurus.' Hearing this vow and this pledge, Janardana, His heart glad, out of affection for the finest of the Kauravas, mounted the chariot once more, together with His discus.
