एतस्मिन्न् एव काले तु द्रुपदस्यात्मजो बली ॥
धृष्टद्युम्नो महाराज तव पुत्रं जनेश्वरम् ॥
छादयाम् आस समरे शरैः संनतपर्वभिः ॥
संछाद्यमानो विशिखैर् धृष्टद्युम्नेन भारत ॥
विव्यथे न च राजेन्द्र तव पुत्रो जनेश्वरः ॥
धृष्टद्युम्नं च समरे तूर्णं विव्याध सायकैः ॥
षष्ट्या च त्रिंशता चैव तद् अद्भुतम् इवाभवत् ॥
तस्य सेनापतिः क्रुद्धो धनुश् चिच्छेद मारिष ॥
हयांश् च चतुरः शीघ्रं निजघान महारथः ॥
शरैश् चैनं सुनिशितैः क्षिप्रं विव्याध सप्तभिः ॥
स हताश्वान् महाबाहुर् अवप्लुत्य रथाद् बली ॥
पदातिर् असिम् उद्यम्य प्राद्रवत् पार्षतं प्रति ॥
शकुनिस् तं समभ्येत्य राजगृद्धी महाबलः ॥
राजानं सर्वलोकस्य रथम् आरोपयत् स्वकम् ॥
ततो नृपं पराजित्य पार्षतः परवीरहा ॥
न्यहनत् तावकं सैन्यं वज्रपाणिर् इवासुरम् ॥
कृतवर्मा रणे भीमं शरैर् आर्छन् महारथम् ॥
प्रच्छादयाम् आस च तं महामेघो रविं यथा ॥
ततः प्रहस्य समरे भीमसेनः परंतपः ॥
प्रेषयाम् आस संक्रुद्धः सायकान् कृतवर्मणे ॥
तैर् अर्द्यमानो ऽतिरथः सात्वतः शस्त्रकोविदः ॥
नाकम्पत महाराज भीमं चार्छच् छितैः शरैः ॥
तस्याश्वांश् चतुरो हत्वा भीमसेनो महाबलः ॥
सारथिं पातयाम् आस ध्वजं च सुपरिष्कृतम् ॥
शरैर् बहुविधैश् चैनम् आचिनोत् परवीरहा ॥
शकलीकृतसर्वाङ्गः श्वाविद्वत् समदृश्यत ॥
हताश्वात् तु रथात् तूर्णं वृषकस्य रथं ययौ ॥

भीमसेनो ऽपि संक्रुद्धस् तव सैन्यम् उपाद्रवत् ॥

nākampata mahārāja bhīmaṃ cārchac chitaiḥ śaraiḥ ||
tasyāśvāṃś caturo hatvā bhīmaseno mahābalaḥ ||
sārathiṃ pātayām āsa dhvajaṃ ca supariṣkṛtam ||
śarair bahuvidhaiś cainam ācinot paravīrahā ||
śakalīkṛtasarvāṅgaḥ śvāvidvat samadṛśyata ||
hatāśvāt tu rathāt tūrṇaṃ vṛṣakasya rathaṃ yayau ||
syālasya te mahārāja tava putrasya paśyataḥ ||
bhīmaseno 'pi saṃkruddhas tava sainyam upādravat ||
nijaghāna ca saṃkruddho daṇḍapāṇir ivāntakaḥ ||
At this very time, the mighty Dhrishtadyumna, son of Drupada, great king, covered your son, the lord of men, with well-jointed arrows. But your son the king, showered with Dhrishtadyumna's arrows, did not waver, O Bharata; he swiftly pierced Dhrishtadyumna in battle with ninety arrows, and it seemed a wonder. Then the enraged commander, a maharatha, cut his bow, quickly killed his four horses, and at once pierced him with seven well-whetted arrows. The mighty-armed and powerful Duryodhana leapt down from his horseless chariot, raised his sword, and ran on foot at Parshata. After this, Parshata, slayer of enemy heroes, having overcome the king, began to strike down your army, like the wielder of the thunderbolt striking the asuras. And the enraged Bhimasena rushed upon your army and began to destroy it, like Antaka with his staff in hand.

The end of the chapter again shows two threads at once: Dhrishtadyumna presses hard upon Duryodhana, while Bhima breaks Kritavarman's footing and then falls upon the army. The comparison of Bhima to Antaka underscores that what now acts on the field is no longer mere personal fury but the inescapability of consequence.
