तस्य लालप्यतः श्रुत्वा वृद्धः कुरुपितामहः ॥
देशकालोचितं वाक्यम् अब्रवीत् प्रीतमानसः ॥
समुद्र इव सिन्धूनां ज्योतिषाम् इव भास्करः ॥
सत्यस्य च यथा सन्तो बीजानाम् इव चोर्वरा ॥
पर्जन्य इव भूतानां प्रतिष्ठा सुहृदां भव ॥
बान्धवास् त्वानुजीवन्तु सहस्राक्षम् इवामराः ॥

Traducción

Having heard his lamentation, the aged grandfather of the Kurus [Bhishma], pleased in heart, spoke a word fitting for the place and time: 'Be a support to your friends — as the ocean is to the rivers, as the sun is to the stars, as the righteous are to truth, as a rich field is to seeds, as a rain cloud is to creatures. Let your kinsmen live at your side, as the immortals live beside the thousand-eyed [Indra].'
