एकायनगता ह्य् एते पीडयेयुर् यतव्रतम् ॥
अरक्ष्यमाणं शलभा यथा दीपं मुमूर्षवः ॥
असंशयं कृतास्त्राश् च पर्याप्ताश् चापि वारणे ॥
अतिभारं त्व् अहं मन्ये भारद्वाजे समाहितम् ॥
ते शीघ्रम् अनुगच्छामो यत्र द्रोणो व्यवस्थितः ॥
काका इव महानागं मा वै हन्युर् यतव्रतम् ॥
ekāyanagatā hy ete pīḍayeyur yatavratam ||
arakṣyamāṇaṃ śalabhā yathā dīpaṃ mumūrṣavaḥ ||
asaṃśayaṃ kṛtāstrāś ca paryāptāś cāpi vāraṇe ||
atibhāraṃ tv ahaṃ manye bhāradvāje samāhitam ||
te śīghram anugacchāmo yatra droṇo vyavasthitaḥ ||
kākā iva mahānāgaṃ mā vai hanyur yatavratam ||
«Indeed, all converging upon a single goal, they could press hard upon him who is firm in his vow, if he is left unguarded — just as moths, going to their doom, fly upon a lamp. But I think that an excessive burden has been placed upon the son of Bharadvaja; so let us hasten swiftly to where Drona stands firm [to the death]».

Duryodhana glimpses a double truth: the enemies rushing at Drona ‘with a single aim’ are like moths flying into a flame — most of them will burn. But the flame itself, if left unguarded, can also be smothered by sheer weight of wings. So after the boasting comes a sober thought: ‘an excessive burden has been placed on Drona — let us hasten to him.’ It is telling that amid all his gloating the leader finally says something worthwhile: even the strongest needs help against overwhelming numbers. The verse teaches that numbers, moved by a single resolve, can overcome even the greatest when left alone; that no one, however mighty, should be made to bear the unbearable alone; and that timely, sensible concern for a comrade in danger is worth more than any triumphant speech — arriving in time to help matters more than correctly foretelling disaster.
