ततस् त्वदीयाः संहृष्टाः साधु साध्व् इति चुक्रुशुः ॥
सिन्धुराजस्य तत् कर्म प्रेक्ष्याश्रद्धेयम् उत्तमम् ॥
संक्रुद्धान् पाण्डवान् एको यद् दधारास्त्रतेजसा ॥
तत् तस्य कर्म भूतानि सर्वाण्य् एवाभ्यपूजयन् ॥

sindhurājasya tat karma prekṣyāśraddheyam uttamam ||
saṃkruddhān pāṇḍavān eko yad dadhārāstratejasā ||
tat tasya karma bhūtāni sarvāṇy evābhyapūjayan ||

Then your warriors, in jubilation, cried out, 'Well done, well done!' having beheld that unbelievable, greatest deed of the king of Sindhu — that he alone held back the enraged Pandavas by the power of [celestial] weapons. All beings extolled that deed of his.

The narrative honestly acknowledges the enemy's deed as 'greatest' and says that 'all beings extolled' it: valor is honored no matter on which side it appears. And yet this praise is bitter — for Jayadratha's glorious feat is that very barrier which dooms the boy. It is telling that the narrative does not withhold recognition from the enemy, even when his deed spells ruin for the righteous. The verse teaches that an honest witness renders valor its due even in an adversary, without diminishing it out of partiality; that one and the same deed can be both greatest in its execution and fateful in its fruits; and that the world honors strength and skill for their own sake — but the one who looks deeper sees, behind the extolled feat, the grief it carries, and does not confuse the brilliance of a deed with the rightness of its aim.
