The measureless is the Fourth: beyond transaction, the stilling of the unfolded world, auspicious, non-dual. Thus Oṁkāra is the Ātman itself. He who knows thus enters of himself into the Self: by the Ātman into the Ātman.

The last mantra is about the silence after the syllable. amātraś caturthaḥ — "the measureless Fourth": Oṁ has a fourth "measure" — the soundlessness in which the syllable is completed and abides; it is not pronounced — by it everything is pronounced. The silence after "m" is the sonic icon of Turīya: avyavahāryaḥ — beyond transaction, prapañcopaśamaḥ — the stilling of the expansion, śivaḥ — auspicious, advaitaḥ — without a second: all the titles of the seventh mantra are given back — this time not to consciousness but to silence, for they are one and the same: the Ground of the states and the Ground of sound are one Ātman: evam oṁkāra ātmaiva — "thus Oṁkāra is the Ātman itself".
And then the finale that crowns the whole Upaniṣad: saṁviśaty ātmanātmānaṁ ya evaṁ veda — "he who knows thus enters by the Ātman into the Ātman": sam-√viś — "to enter one's own dwelling": he does not vanish, does not dissolve — he enters as one enters home: the soul with its own being steps into its own Being, the spark into the Fire from which it shone (the Muṇḍaka), the river into the Ocean, to the "divine Puruṣa" (Muṇḍaka 3.2.8), the arrow into the Target, so as to become tan-maya, woven of Him. An entering is not the annihilation of the one who enters: in a house one lives.
So ends the briefest of the Upaniṣads: in twelve mantras the road is walked from "Oṁ is all this" to "by this Oṁ go home". Three states — three sounds — and the Fourth, which is neither state nor sound but He Himself: the Lord of all, the Inner Ruler (mantra 6), gracious and tranquil, waiting beyond the syllable's last silence. The Name, pronounced to its very bottom, opens like a door — and behind the door is not emptiness but the Master of the house.
