The roll of names is completed: Prajāpati, Virāṭ, Puruṣa, the waters.
Virāṭ is the gross body of the universe; we examined him in the thirty-eighth section of the Atharvaśiras, where he stood paired with Hiraṇyagarbha.
Salila, “the waters”, is from the hymn of creation: “the waters were in the beginning, and in them the germ”.
And the sum is drawn: stūyate... vibhuḥ — “the All-pervading is praised”.
One subject for the whole roll. The twelfth and thirteenth verses together have named twelve names and declared them the names of One.
Note atharva-viditaiḥ — “known to the Atharvan”. For the third verse running the book cites that Veda, and in the end ascribes itself to it.
This deserves note: the Muktikā lists the Mantrikā under the Śukla Yajurveda, while its own testimony points to the Atharvan. Such divergences in the lists are common, and I record them not for dispute but so the reader may know what our notes rest on.
The next two verses are the heart of the book and the second passage for which Baladeva cites it.
