ततो गान्धारराजस्य पुत्रः शकुनिर् अभ्ययात् ॥
स्वसारं परया लक्ष्म्या युक्ताम् आदाय कौरवान् ॥
दत्त्वा स भगिनीं वीरो यथार्हं च परिच्छदम् ॥
पुनर् आयात् स्वनगरं भीष्मेण प्रतिपूजितः ॥

Here the marriage is accomplished: Shakuni brings his sister to the Kauravas. Shakuni's fleeting appearance is telling — this is the one who will later become the evil genius of the Kauravas, Duryodhana's tutor in guile, and the arranger of the fateful game of dice. Here one sees how quietly, amid a decorous rite, the seed of future ruin enters the house of Kuru: for now he is only a dutiful brother escorting his sister, yet the future avenger is already hidden within him. It is telling that Bhishma honors him according to custom — virtue is hospitable and does not discern evil where it has not yet been revealed. Thus the scripture, in describing a joyful marriage exchange, unobtrusively brings onto the stage one of those through whom fate will be fulfilled; goodness receives future evil into its house, unaware of it.
