सुकुमारं च सूक्ष्मं च गुरुं चापि गुरुप्रियः ॥
सौष्ठवेनाभिसंयुक्तः सो ऽविध्यद् विविधैः शरैः ॥
भ्रमतश् च वराहस्य लोहस्य प्रमुखे समम् ॥
पञ्च बाणान् असंसक्तान् स मुमोचैकबाणवत् ॥
गव्ये विषाणकोशे च चले रज्ज्ववलम्बिते ॥
निचखान महावीर्यः सायकान् एकविंशतिम् ॥
इत्य् एवमादि सुमहत् खड्गे धनुषि चाभवत् ॥
गदायां शस्त्रकुशलो दर्शनानि व्यदर्शयत् ॥

nicakhāna mahāvīryaḥ sāyakān ekaviṃśatim ||

gadāyāṃ śastrakuśalo darśanāni vyadarśayat ||
And the delicate target, and the small, and the large, dear to his teacher, he pierced with perfect finesse using various arrows; and into the mouth of a moving iron boar he at once loosed five unconnected arrows as if one; and into a cow-horn case, swaying, hung on a rope, the man of great valor drove twenty-one shafts. And the like great feats he showed with sword and bow, and with the mace too, skilled in weapons.

Here Arjuna's art reaches the limit of precision. Telling is the variety of targets — delicate, small, large, moving, swaying: he strikes any of them, in any position, with any number of arrows. Here is seen the fruit of that concentration foreshadowed earlier in the parable of the "eye of the bird": perfect precision is born of perfect attention. Telling too is that by a single act of will he looses five arrows "as if one": supreme mastery abolishes the gap between intention and action. Thus the scripture crowns Arjuna's performance with fullness of skill, before the one arrives on the arena who will dare to contest his primacy.
