प्रजोच्छेदम् इमं मह्यं सर्वं सोमपसत्तम ॥
अधर्मिष्ठं वरिष्ठः सन् कुरुषे त्वं पराशर ॥
राजा कल्माषपादश् च दिवम् आरोढुम् इच्छति ॥

Here the contradiction between worth and deed is exposed. It is significant in Pulastya's words: "the worthiest, you commit the most unrighteous" -- the higher a man stands, the graver his wrong; greatness is expected to yield greatness, not evil. Significant too is the mention of Kalmashapada ascending to heaven: even the guilty one is already redeemed and saved, making vengeance against his kin all the more senseless. This reveals that retribution lags behind when the wrong has already been resolved from above: to punish what providence has already released is a double injustice. Thus the scripture reveals the futility of vengeance carried on by the mere momentum of wrath.
