समवेतान् हि कः पार्थान् प्रतियुध्येत भारत ॥
मरुद्भिः सहितो राजन्न् अपि साक्षान् मरुत्पतिः ॥

Vidura closes with an argument from strength: even Indra with the Maruts could not overcome the Parthas united. Telling is that he appeals not only to conscience but to reason: enmity with the invincible is not only a sin but a folly. The verse teaches that wrongdoing is doubly unwise when turned against the strongest: to impiety is added doom. And "gathered together" is the key: the strength of the Pandavas lies in their unity, bound by dharma and by Krishna. Whoever plots against them plots against the invincible — and thereby destroys only himself. Vidura has exhausted his arguments — both of conscience and of advantage; what remains is only Dhritarashtra's freedom to choose, and on this choice hangs the fate of the family.
