[Vidura:] "The sinful acknowledge nothing worthy [uttering only reproach] -- neither the forest-dweller, nor the householder, nor the ascetic full of knowledge; thus dog-men bark forever. You do not understand, O son of Dhritarashtra, the terrible, crooked door of hell; and after you, in [this] outcome of the game, many of the Kurus will follow, together with Duhshasana."

Vidura sees further than the game -- the "crooked door of hell" into which Duryodhana, and many after him, are being drawn. Telling is the fact that one man's sin draws in a multitude: accomplices follow the instigator, and a shared guilt leads to a shared ruin. The verse teaches that wrongdoing is not solitary in its consequences: "many will follow" -- accomplices will share the fate as well. And the image of "dog-men" who bark at every righteous person without discrimination exposes slander as the very nature of the base: nothing is sacred to them. One who has arrived at the "door of hell" drags his companions along with him; and thus the sin of a leader is more terrible than the sin of one alone -- it opens the gates of ruin for all who follow him.
