Vyāsa said: 'O greatly wise Dhritarashtra, hear my word: I will tell you the highest good of all the Kauravas. It is not to my liking, O mighty-armed one, that the Pandavas have gone into the forest, defeated by deceit at the hands of those who follow Duryodhana's will. Remembering their sufferings, when the thirteenth year is complete, they will release their poison upon the Kauravas in fury, O Bharata. Why does this sinful and foolish-minded son of yours, forever enraged at the Pandavas, wish to kill them for the sake of the kingdom? Restrain this madman properly; let your son come to peace. Wishing to kill them in the forest, he will himself part with his life. As the wise Vidura says, as Bhishma says, as we, Kripa, and Drona say -- so it should be done.'

Vyāsa speaks from the vantage of time: today's injustice will not simply vanish -- it will return after thirteen years as accumulated poison. Fate here is not blind; it grows out of a deed left unrepented.
